Training on Fisheries Technologies and Opportunities in Uttarakhand concluded at ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun on February 18, 2024

Training on fisheries technologies and opportunities in Uttarakhand concluded on 18th Feb. 2024 at Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (ICAR-IISWC), Dehradun. The second batch of this training program sponsored by the Directorate of Uttarakhand State Fisheries Department, Dehradun was inaugurated by Dr M Madhu, Director, ICAR-IISWC on 14th Feb.2024 in presence of scientists and technical officers of the Institute. Dr M Muruganandam, Principal Scientist and Head (PME & KM) Unit, ICAR-IISWC, the coordinator the course summing up the course, answered various questions, cleared the apprehensions of the trainees to bring out consolidated benefit to participants. Earlier during various sessions, he shared the details of concepts and technologies explaining associated potentials for fish farming, integrated farming, and advanced technologies as means of livelihoods and food production avenues. Dr Charan Singh, Head, HRD & SS Division presented views on farmers-centric resource conservation, Dr PR Ojasvi, Principal Scientist (SWC Engg) on small-scale water harvesting potential in hills, and Dr M Sankar, Sr Scientist (Soil Science) demonstrated the use of drones in farming at Selakui Research Farm.

Sh Rakesh Kumar, CTO and Sh Suresh Kumar, CTO, conducted field visits to Research Farm and State Fisheries Department Fish Hatchery at Dakhrani and Museum visits. Er SS Shrimali, Sr Scientist, Dr Sadikul Islam, Scientist, Er Amit Chauhan, ACTO, Sh HS Bhatia and Dr Pramod Lawate, STO, IISWC besides officials from State Fisheries Department including Sh Anil Kumar, Deputy Director, and Sh Rajkumar Sharma, Sr Fisheries Inspector State Fisheries Department facilitated the whole training program. Fifty trainees including 26 youths and graduates, 18 women farmers and 6 entrepreneurial farmers from far-flung districts of Uttarakhand, Pithoragarh and Udam Singh Nagar benefitted from the training program. This program was sponsored by Uttarakhand State Fisheries Department, Dehradun under the provision of the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) scheme of the Department.At the send during the feedback session, trainees shared their experience of knowledge gained on fish farming, advanced farming technologies and overall course content of the 5 days training program. Assuring to share the gained knowledge with other fellow farmers besides applying them for their development.
