Under International Year of Millets programme celebration ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Research Centre, Udhagamandalam organized an awareness programme on “Importance of millets, role in resource conservation and different value added products in the market” on 15-03-2023. Around 20 WDT members from Thoothukudi district, Tamil Nadu participated in the programme. Dr. P. Sundarambal, Principal Scientist and Head of the Centre, IISWC, RC, Udhagamandalam briefed about the importance of millets cultivation under the changing climatic scenario and their role in resource conservation. Dr. S. M. Vanitha, Senior Scientist, explained about the benefits of including millets in the diet and different types of millets value added products available in the market. Dr. Sudheer Kumar Annepu, Scientist, briefed about the need for promoting millets area, and production through natural farming and their consumption. Dr. Edison, training organizer, COODU trust , Thoothukudi also spoke about different varieties of Barnyard millet and preparation of various recipes. The programme ended by a formal vote of thanks.
